Masonboro: Quick trip to Panama Sportfishing Lodge

quote from  fishing report 360Tuna Forum

After a rough end to 2011 good friends John and Reggie De la Cruz invited me down to Boca Chica to relax with there family and fish for a couple of days, booked a quick flight down to PTY and then flew straight to David. Crew from PSFL picked me up and 45 minutes later I am at lodge with a vodka & orange juice waiting on me.Feels good to be back at ‘PSFL’.
Fishing was excellent! I have caught a few marlin in the past and am not really intrested in catching anymore but really did not have a choice this time. The marlin were thick and they were eating everything we put in the water. On one occasion Reggie and I were throwing poppers at a baitball with yft busting them and while the tuna were feeding on bait the marlin were crashing the tuna eating the bait. Pretty cool to see! We had 4 marlin in one day, 2 Blues and 2 Blacks. Next day we told Macho no more marlin, so we went jigging and popping. Took Johns new ‘Palmetto’ center console out and worked on dialing in the new depth sounder and transducer, once Macho got it dialed in we had excellent grouper jigging at some new spots. Once we caught enough grouper for everyone at the lodge to enjoy we decided to head back to lodge to relax but the YFT had different idea so we had to go run and gun them when we tried to get past Montousa. It’s hard to pass tuna when they are busting bait on top, does not matter how tired your arms are, you gotta go!
Overall this trip was great, I usually take large groups to ‘PSFL’ but this time I went by myself and got to really enjoy it and do whatever I wanted. The crew at ‘PSFL’ has always been great but I think they have gotten even better this year. Didn’t get a lot of photo’s but got a few good ones for you’ll to enjoy.
THANKYOU John aka “TunaPimp” and Reggie for letting me spend time with your family and truly RELAX for a few day’s. See you in March John with crew from N.C.

Father and Sons – Panama Sport Fishing Lodge

This is a fishing report quote from Trey Russo from Bloodydecks Forum

This was truly a special trip for me. My father has been battling cancer, and it was time for a father and sons trip to the lodge. I have been very fortunate to share some great trips with my father throughout the years, however this was my brothers first foray into deep sea fishing. Needless to say Panama Sport Fishing Lodge delivered. I was very excited to fish with Capt Macho and Son Jeffrey, so this was a true father and sons trip.

After seeing all of the pics and reports from my past trips to the lodge, my brother had been dreaming of a Marlin. What can I say, all of his dreams would be fulfilled. Blue Marlin, Cow Tuna, Pargo and Dorado would be on the catch list. It was great seeing my brother go toe to toe with the Marlin and Tuna. He had absolutely no idea what he was in for. There was no quit in him.

We took an extra day in Panama to enjoy some golf, eat some great cebiche, and take some money from the Venato. Mission Accomplished.

Enjoy the Pics.

Father and Son in-law at Panama Sportfishing Lodge

Shannon and his Father in Law Juan from Texas fishes at PSFL every other month, it is a great thing
to be able to fly direct from Houston, they got some nice Dodos and Snapper and a very small Tuna on this trip, they squeeze a few days during the Holidays, always great to have this duo at PSFL, enjoy the pics.

Finding Time to Fish

Finally got a few days to fish with my good friend Niko and his boys, we also went with Pancho on his new Viking, Captain Macho was at the helm, we Jig, Pop and live bait and off course I have my Black Hole Rod that I’m trying to break, we caught some nice Tuna, Roosterfish, Sierra , AJs, Dorados, caught a Big Cubera on popper , I also caught a Huge Sailfish, biggest one so far in my book, felt good to fish with my buddies, I wish I can find more time to fish, enjoy the pics.
